Pondicherry is also known as Puducherry. It is one of the 7 union territories of India and also the oldest French colony of India. When you visit, you can still see the influence of the French region. The closest airport to Pondicherry is Chennai. From there one can take a bus which takes 4 hours. There are private AC buses that take anywhere from INR 250-350 one way, and government non AC buses that take 80-120 INR one way. Depending on the season and type of travel, you can choose your ride. I tried both as I like to connect with the locals more while on a trip.
You can also drive on your vehicle from Chennai to Pondicherry by road. It’s about 165 KMS and an easy drive away as the roads are good. You can travel at Pondicherry by hiring cycles or Ola/Uber services as the local rickshaw charges a hefty fee usually and will loot you for sure. Hence it’s best to opt for Ola/Uber or rent a car for the whole day.
Pondicherry has a French influence which can be seen in the architecture and their culture. “White town” is where one should stay to remain close to attractions they can see and explore, which also makes restaurant/bar hopping easy peasy!

I visited Pondicherry in October. The weather was quite hot in the day time and was pouring in between. Quite contradicting no?
Anyway, the best time to visit Pondicherry is between November – January as the climate is quite pleasant which makes travel and staying at each of the locations very easy. You must remember that when visiting Pondicherry, things to do and places to visit are mostly out in the open, in front of the sun and also very close to nature. Hence choosing a suitable climate for your visit becomes important.
The worst time to visit is March to June as its quite hot, sunny and makes you feel very tired, exhausted and dehydrated quickly.
So tell me, What do you love about Pondicherry?
