We all know families that make really delicious food, and this quest for great food makes us visit their place more often than not. People say they have magic in their hands, and when they realize the same, they turn their passion into business. This is exactly the story behind Mama Pondo, and this led to Mama Pondo express, a Take away joint present at various location.
The success and popularity of Mama Pondo Express further gave birth to Mama Pondo Asian Café, the Casual All Day Diner serving Asian food.
Mama Pondo has modern, trendy décor, with wooden furnishing, grey upholstery, filament, mirrored windows, with a dedicated panda wall, with amazing frames and quotes. The décor does make you comfortable and happy to be around.
We started with Amuse bouche, the Palate cleanser having Mango, Lichi and rock salt.
Next we called for Berrylicious: A great refreshing drink, which is a perfect mix of Guava juice, Orange juice and Mango juice, blend with some Strawberry crush.
Out of School: Served in a pirate’s glass, this mocktail has Guava base and for the hint of spiciness it has Tabasco and Bistro Sauce.
Mojito: A twist to the normal mojito, this is served in a Sheesha jar, yes you read that right, having lemon juice, mint and basil, refreshing like always!
We then called for; Chicken Basil Dumpling: It’s stuffed with flavoured beans, chicken and Chinese herbs, wrapped in Hong Kong flour with hint of Ocimum basilicum (Sabja Seeds). Highly recommended.
Dark Prawn Haregao: The perfect translucent dimsums are stuffed with mince prawns which is flavorsome and delicious, try for its uniqueness.
Beetroot infused Chicken Jiaozi: best for beetroot lovers, without getting the traditional beetroot taste, it’s stuffed with pickled ginger and beetroot, great coloured Dimsum to try for sure.
Panda’s Belly (Veg): One of the best veg appetizer for sure, the base is of fried Potato served in the shape of Panda, topped with mixed vegetables and mayo. Delicious, with each bites giving a burst of flavours.
Fish in Pepper Garlic: Basa fish cooked perfectly in Soya and garlic sauce, its crunchy and loaded with chunks of pepper on top.
Hunan Prawns: The prawns are crispy, done in ginger and chili paste, topped with capsicum and onions. One of my favorite and should definitely be tried.
After appetizers, we were served another Sorbet in Mango flavour to cleanse your palate and take you down the memory lane
For Mains, we tried, Stir fried Veg having exotic vegetables like bell pepper, broccoli, asparagus, capsicum and onion perfectly seasoned. Egg fried Rice and Me Goreng Noodles, done nicely in me Goreng sauce. Fish in Pickled Chilly, the spices used are from Chindu or Chenduo County from China. Chicken in Chilly Basics, tender chicken and leafy Basil is done in ginger garlic and soya sauce.
Coming to the finale, we had, Darsaan, the base is of crispy flat noodles, topped with honey, further garnished with vanilla ice cream. Soft and crunchy at the same time.
